Elizabeth House, St Peter's Square

Elizabeth House, owned by Argent, is to be redeveloped as One St Peter's Square

I've long since wondered what is going on with this building, and thanks to a good friend of mine, I now know. It's being demolished!

Manchester is a great example of beautiful architectural design, but this isn't one of them - it's one of the many buildings that popped up in the 60's when this design was considered "fashionable".

I've been passed it quite a few times over the years, and noticed how all the shops in it have been disappearing as time is going on. Whilst I am happy to see this building being replaced, unfortunately it seems to be encompassing the old Odeon Cinema just along Oxford Road which should be preserved and regenerated in to another cinema, perhaps the CornerHouse should consider obtaining it? Bit late I think for that now which is a shame.

The new building looks very nice and seems from the picture to be in keeping with the rest of St Peter's Square with the columns mirroring the library across the way.

What do you think of 60's buildings like this? Should they all be replaced with more "viewer friendly" architecture?

Thank you to Tom for the information and I hope you can visit his blog also.

What is Manchester's best restaurant?

Manchester is a city well known for its nightlife and places to eat out, but where do you think is the BEST place to eat out in the whole of the city?

Do you like a Chinese meal, an Indian, or some English home cooking? Let me know your opinions. Every place that you recommend will be mentioned on this site and if we get enough suggestions we will try and name Manchester's favourite restaurant.

Let us know your recommendations. The more obscure the better!

Homophobia and Racism

well someone online has had a go at me for saying homophobia is like racism, I quote "THAT IS COMPLETE CRAP! WHAT THE HELL DOES THE COLOR OF SOMONE'S SKIN HAV ANYTHING TO DO WITH...TO EVEN THINK TO PUT IT INTO COMPARSION IS A JOKE!"

First of all, it's rude to SHOUT.

Secondly no one chooses the colour of their skin so why make judgments and decisions based on it? Wouldn't that be racist? Are you implying that sexuality is a personal choice? If you are then you really need to open your eyes to the real world. Do you think all those people bullied and discriminated over the years because of who they are attracted to chose to be that way? Sexuality is NOT A CHOICE [yes that was shouting!]

It amazes me that in this day and age people still have ignorant and uneducated of opinions. Parents must be so proud....

British News - Trust no-one?

"Girl, 13, crushed to death by a falling branch as she sat on park bench on the day her teachers went out on strike"

This a GENUINE headline from today's Daily Mail. There are SO many things wrong with this whole article that it would take a full 10,000 word essay to express myself fully on it. What it does highlight to me though is that there are no newspapers at all in this country that can give you a balanced, unbiased report on any news event.

Joe often asks me why I buy more than one newspaper every day, but I've always found it interesting to read a story from two different perspectives in order to form my own opinion...

Most media outlets in the UK however now have a habit of telling their readers what their opinions are, its so easy to manipulate someone into thinking a certain way. One of my favourite headlines recently came from The Star who declared "British children forced fed Muslim food." When you read further in to the story all it is does is reprot that some schools are offering children halal meat, that was all there was in terms of facts but by time the average Star readers get past the headline there are probably so outraged already they are ready to sign up to the English Defence League!

I'm not just singling out The Star or The Mail, practically all the papers do it. The average headline in The Mirror is "Government -BOOO, Labour , Yay!" and the Sun does the same in reverse. The Express has 50% of its stories slanted towards a Princess Diana perspective while the other 50% is a swipe at Madelaine MCCann's parents.

Anyway that's my rant for today. My advice to you when reading the news is one thing, "TRUST NO ONE"
