Joe's Favourite Songs from the last 10 Eurovision Song Contests

The third and final page, recapping 2011 and 2012, along with my pick of the 2013 competition.

2011 brought the first entry from Jedward, just "why"? Although they did beat the UK, mind you we also send a "boy band". Also this year brings Itality back to the competition. This one is hard, but for a different reason to the others. I actually like a couple of songs, and one them is *not* Jedward! Denmark, Sweden and Azerbaijan (the winner this year) were all in the running. Having discounted Azerbaijan, mainly because they won and I personally didn't think it was as good as the other two, I watched the other two songs in full again. So we have A Friend in London singing New Tomorrow for Denmark and Eric Saade with Popular for Sweden. I actually think the Swedish entry should have won this year. I remember everyone being shocked in our house when it didn't win. So, my favourite for this year is Eric Saade with Popular.

2012 had the UK entering the great Engelbert Humperdinck and to be honest, I would choose this as my favourite, although I am sticking to Eurovision rules and I can't vote for my own country. How and why did the Russian song come anywhere close to winning? Matthew's favourite of this year is the winner, Euphoria which was the Swedish entry. I don't particularly like it, it's too "clubby" for my liking. And why did Ireland send Jedward back again? I've picked the German entry this year. A little slower than the other songs, but I think it's a really beautiful piece sung brilliantly. Roman Lob with Standing Still.

And now we come to 2013. With the UK entry being one of my favourite female artists, Bonnie Tyler, I am hoping that she will win. I've had a quick look at the entrants from this year, breaking my cardinal rule of listening to music before the night. I hope you appreciate this! I think that the Slovenian entry will do quite well, not my cup of tea, but I definitely think it will be a high placer. Denmark is apparently this years favourite so far, I'm not sure about it myself. Russia seems to be going for the let's have peace route, and it is actually quite a good song. The Netherlands entry is stunning, absolutely beautiful. Lithuania has a pretty good looking guy, although he can't keep his eyebrows under control. The Belarus entry reminds me of an entry from a few years ago... I think the song was "Touch My Fire".

I think my pick will be The Netherlands. This is Anouk singing Birds. I really love this song, although I don't see everyone thinking the same.
