The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
I didn't know what to expect with this film, whilst a great cast there may be, that does not necessarily mean the film will be good. With trepidation in place, compounded by the average age in the screen probably being twice my age. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. In a whirlwind of sounds, colours and sights, you are transported to India along with the retirees and are engrossed by everything that happens.
With fantastic performances from all, I think it is Bill Nighy that seems to edge out and steal it all. With a performance that hints towards being Billy Mack in Love Actually, you start to feel for his character and understand everything he is going through.
Tom Wilkinson's character has a secret I wasn't expecting from a film like this one, I don't want to say too much in case you haven't seen it, but his emotions are yours as you watch it unfold.
Overall, I really enjoyed the film and probably would watch it again - which for me is quite a rare thing to say
My Score: 8/10
Director: John Madden
Starring: Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Maggie Smith, Penelope Wilton, Dev Patel, Tom Wilkinson, Celia Imrie, Ronald Pickup
