Upcoming Movie Releases June 2012
I thought I would take a little time to note the films I am looking forward to in the next month or so. I was going to do the next six months to the end of the year, but there are just too many! Hopefully I will be able to see them all, but sometimes it happens that my local Cineworld (or the one a little further out) doesn't show a particular film as they don't think it will be popular enough - hopefully they will sort this out.
I will not be listing all the films coming out, just the ones I am looking forward to.
I will be listing these in release order, along with a trailer from youtube if I can find a decent quality one.
Casa de mi padre - June 8th 2012
"Armando Alvarez (Will Ferrell) has lived and worked on his father's ranch in Mexico his entire life. As the ranch encounters financial difficulties, Armando's younger brother Raul (Diego Luna) shows up with his new fiancée, Sonia (Genesis Rodriguez). It seems that Raul's success as an international businessman means the ranch's troubles are over as he pledges to settle all debts his father has incurred. But when Armando falls for Sonia, and Raul's business dealings turn out to be less than legit, all hell breaks loose as they find themselves in a war with Mexico's most feared drug lord, the mighty Onza (Gael Garcia Bernal)"
This is a film we discovered by accident whilst looking up the list of films being released on IMDB. It is in Spanish (never let that put you off a film) and has been tagged as the "funniest film you will ever read". Will Ferrell is usually good in films, and from the trailer we saw, it looks like it will be quite funny. It isn't currently listed as being shown near me, but I hope one of the Cineworlds we can get to easily will be showing it.
Cast: Will Ferrell, Nick Offerman, Genesis Rodrigues, Diego Luna, Gael García Bernal
Rock of Ages - June 13th 2012
"Rock of Ages tells the story of small town girl Sherrie and city boy Drew, who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams"
Initially when I saw the trailer for this film, I wasn't impressed. But, after seeing more of the cast, I am looking forward to it more and more. Starring the great Alec Baldwin and the not so great Tom Cruise (my opinion) it seems to be riding on the tail of Glee's success with covers. It remains to see if I will enjoy this film, but I have laughed a few times at the trailer, I just hope they haven't put all the best bits in the trailer and there is just crap left.
Cast: Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta-Spartacus-Jones (Princess), Malin Akerman, Mary J. Blige.
Every film has an "and" in their cast, and this one is no exception, already mentioned above, we have Alec Baldwin and Tom Cruise as the with and "and" respectively.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter - June 15th 2012
"Visionary filmmakers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov reinvent the time-honored genre and present the terrifying creatures of the night as they were meant to be experienced -- as fierce, visceral, intense and bloodthristy. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter brings to the screen the secret life of our nation's favorite president...as history's greatest hunter of the undead."
Yes, this sounds ridiculous, and I am still not sure if I will be seeing it, but it is a film Tim Burton is involved with. I'll decide closer to the time if I will be seeing this or not.
Cast: Benjamin Walker, Rufus Sewell, Dominic Cooper
The Five-Year Engagment - June 22nd 2012
"The director and writer/star of Forgetting Sarah Marshall reteam for the irreverent comedy The Five-Year Engagement. Beginning where most romantic comedies end, the new film from director Nicholas Stoller, producer Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, The 40-Year-Old Virgin) and Rodney Rothman (Get Him to the Greek) looks at what happens when an engaged couple, Jason Segel and Emily Blunt, keeps getting tripped up on the long walk down the aisle"
A Jason Segal film is always a good thing, and this one comes with the bonus of being written by him (along with Nicholas Stoller) this looks like it will be a great comedy.
Cast: Emily Blunt, Jason Segel
Friends with Kids - June 29th 2012
"Friends with Kids is a daring and poignant ensemble comedy about a close-knit circle of friends at that moment in life when children arrive and everything changes. The last two singles in the group observe the effect that kids have had on their friends' relationships and wonder if there's a better way. They decide to have a kid together - and date other people. There are big laughs and unexpected emotional truths as this unconventional 'experiment' leads everyone in the group to question the nature of friendship, family and, finally, true love"
Kristen Wiig is a goddess of comedy, if not the goddess of comedy. Any film that has Kristen Wiig in it, will be one me and bluejovanka will be going to see. This film was apparently made before Bridesmaids and contains a lot of the same cast. I don't think it will suffer and I am looking forward to seeing this and really hope it will be even just half as funny as last years film. It you have never seen Kristen Wiig (where have you been) go and see this. Kristen and Maya Rudolph make a fantastic comedy duo from their years together on Saturday Night Live so you know it will be worth it.
Cast: Kristen Wiig, Jon Hamm, Adam Scott, Jennifer Westfeldt, Maya Rudolph
The Amazing Spiderman - July 3rd 2012
"The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker, an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben and Aunt May. Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors, his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero"
I know this is technically not June 2012, but it just falls in the "next month or so" category. This is *not* Spiderman 4, this is a whole new animal. Starring Andrew Garfield *drool* and Emma Stone this film promises a lot, and it does look like it will be delivering. Hopefully we will be seeing this in the new "DBox" seats that Cineworld are installing (apparently hot drinks are banned from them) so I hope we don't get motion sickness! Whilst writing this, I am looking in to the cast and I must say, could you have a better Uncle and Aunt than Martin Sheen and Sally Field? Perhaps they can only be surpassed by Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon by their iconicness.
Cast: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Sally Field, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen
That's all folks for this installment, I hope you enjoyed reading this and I have inspired you to get out to the cinema. If you only take one thing away from this post, please make it this: Kristen Wiig is a goddess!
